That was a few weeks ago. But now Windows is trying to push the update on me again. I keep saying no, but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. Now I’m at the “restart your computer” stage and every hour I get the “restart now? I’ve gone through as many settings regarding Windows updates but there doesn’t seem to be anything that I do that stops these notifications. And they pop up even while I’m in the middle of doing something else.

They are highly intrusive. I’m not against updating Because when I decide to do it, I want to do a clean install. But I neither have the time or desire to do that right now. Hopefully you will read this before they censor me, but you have to search for stopping the “Feature” updates and add a key to your registry.

Also if you’re on WIFI set the connection to a metered connection. Microsoft isn’t evil enough to use bandwidth you pay extra for to download an update yet. I don’t believe anyone from Microsoft posts on these forums. I think they are all volunteers and to their credit I have never seen them censor or delete any post, no matter how uncomplimentary they might be towards Microsoft. You cannot stop feature updates alone. Any stopping updates procedure will also stop security updates.

Well then I’m going to have to be nicer to them. I never get viruses or anything, but I always get screwed up with updates. In my case the cure is worse than the disease. So I added a key to my registry and it stopped bugging me. Which is SUCH a relief. I run Windows Defender allow it to update, which seems independent of windows updates and just practice safe internet, the simple rules we learned in the 90’s.

Don’t open attachments or emails from people you don’t know, never give out personal information ie birthday on facebook etc. I totally agree with your not needing security updates.

Many years ago I was using Vista and then all of a sudden all updates were ending unsuccessfully. Microsoft then still allowed the user to control their own system and I easily disabled updates. Ran that way for a few years with no problems whatsoever. Perhaps lucky? Who knows.

Just make sure you regularly back up your files to an external drive in case your pc gets hijacked due to a security flaw. It is completely ridiculous that Microsoft offers businesses a Windows 10 version that will only download security updates and will NOT download any feature updates – the updates that are causing all these problems on this forum – yet ignores us individual users.
