The only way this game lags is if you fight people from the other side of the world and with bad connections, I write bad connections because I have apparently fought with people from, Japan, Croatia, UK, etc. Most of those fights have been stutter free.

OF course there is a bit of delay but not enough for me to complain. I was also worried that there wouldn’t be many people playing as I sometimes had trouble on the vanilla SF4 finding opponents with good connections but this game is packed with opponents and since the online play is so good I have the broader option of fighting people from South America, the Pacific, Europe etc. I live in Puerto Rico so to get stutter free matches from people living so far away is a big plus for me. One thing I have to mention is that the game crashes or can loose connection enough times for you to notice it.

While it barely happens there were few instances when I got mad as hell. The game still use Games For Windows Live which sucks and as I mentioned before it can make your game crash just for clicking the home button too quickly at least in my case.

So yeah, this game is worth it. At Evo , 15 of the top 16 players used unique characters only Cammy appeared twice. Don’t think that it’s too late to get into this game; AE will be staying a tournament game staple, as this game is still in its stages of growth. As for the PC version of SSF4:AE , it is a good enough port, with natural controller support, meaning you can plug in an Xbox controller or fight stick at anytime and the game will automatically recognize it.

The game also does a good job at automatically setting the graphical settings, but I wish there was a way to change options or volume controls in the middle of matches, but that isn’t really a big deal. It has an editable config. Unfortunately, since a large majority of the playerbase lies on the consoles, not that many people play on the PC version, and if this is your first fighting game, you’re going to have a tough time with the matchmaking as it will match you up with players who have been playing the game for a while if you’ve been playing AE before, then the skill game isn’t much of a problem.

Luckily, you can find many people to help you learn the game on places like Shoryuken. The game, however, uses Games for Windows Live, which isn’t really a problem But once you get past that inconvenient hurdle, you’ll easily find yourself enjoying the company of SSF4:AE The code has been cleaned up and the graphics look even sharper and clearer. The lag that I was experiencing in single player mode is gone.

Capcom has reversed the rules of unlocking items in single player. This time out. What are locked are the various game play modes, colors and character taunts. Cons: Time attack and survival modes seem to be missing in this version and have been replaced with barrel busting and car crushing modes which seem to be a bit limited game play wise, although still fun to play. This is a big minus for me although the game is still quite enjoyable.

In addition to the new game modes they’ve added a bunch of new stages and more detailed character animations. I’ll be spending the evening trying to unlock the extra character colors and taunts.

This game gets 4 stars for graphics and gameplay, and loses 1 for missing time attack and survival modes. Capcom needs to start releasing more fighting game titles to PC. When they do I’ll be 1st in line to buy them This game is playable on standard dual-core processor and above laptops, but words of warning As you decrease the graphics settings, the performance gets better but with increasing graininess.

This game takes a while to install also, so just be patient as it installs. If you’re a PC gamer, this is not news to you. If you’re not, then remember to be patient as you set up and configure everything.
